I really enjoyed this book! Not just for children, but also a great reminder for adults, that even though we may meltdown at times, and project ourselves as scary... that's really not who we are deep inside.
The authenticity the author presented in this wonderful book for little people was spot on. There are so many ways to meltdown, and I think she captured them all... and presented them in a way that are clearly identifiable for little ones. We all know that things are hardest when you can't name them. This book will help frustrated young people name their shadows and by doing so, perhaps make them a bit more manageable.
Illustrator, Jason Michener clearly understood the "assignment." The artwork looked like it was drawn by little hands with all the flailing about that emotion and crayons can create together. I felt the story was clearer because the artwork seemed well-connected to all those big, scary things... and the recognition that those things aren't in control.
I say, well done, to this team of storytellers! This will make a nice addition to any child's bookshelf (and for a few adults I know, too).
