A few nights ago, I spent two hours writing with an amazing group of people, the Creative Slingers of Ink. Every Monday night, we meet in the Zoom Room and support each other through creating the words that need to find a home on our pages.
I know I've written in other blog posts about the tremendous energy that flows when authors meet to write in community... and I was again reminded about the amazingness found - even via Zoom - when creative souls spend time together, and really understand our mutual passion to create.
Whether it's paragraphs in a novel, editorial work to polish a piece that's close to publication, or crafting blog posts for a marketing program, we're all there to act as cheereleaders for each other and offer an extra-gentle push to get over the goal line. But it's not only words... we share the excitement, wonder, and frustration in all the other aspects of releasing a book out into the wilds... formatting, illustrations, cover design, plus story and character development assists.
I wasn't really thrilled about joining the group this past Monday night... my brain wasn't really into it that day. it was a long weekend, a long day, and I felt a bit emotionally depleted. But because I knew other writers were counting on me to be there, I showed up - for them, if not for myself. And I'm so glad that I did. Not only was there a wonderful infusion of positive energy swirling around the room, which became infectious, I also added over 2,500 words to my current WIP in just two hours! I spent time smoothing transitions and adding much needed dialogue. It was a good night to be a writer. It was an even better night to feel the exchange of that creative energy, laugh loudly, and indulge in a little playful snark.
The excitement of moving my paranormal novel forward lasted well after we signed off for the night... and it still lingers today. The warmth of the friendships I've built with these amazing authors also stays... strong and solid, reminding me that even when I'm not really into it, it's never a bad idea to sign on and join the community. I'm always pleased with the results.
If you're looking for this kind of support, friendship, and gentle accountability to infuse energy into your writing practice, I highly recommend you join me at the next Creative Slingers of Ink Writing Session. We meet every Monday night, from 7pm to 9pm EST. You can come for a little bit, or stay for the entire session. You can come dressed in your jammies, a top hat and tails, or anything in between. (Although birthday suits are always an option, it's probably not a good choice in this situation.) Turn on your mic and camera, or lurk in the shadows and join the conversation in the chat feed. Even if it's only one small thing you accomplish... it'll be more than you had before the session started - and that's always a good thing!
Come join the laughter and get words on your page. It's FREE to join the Inkwell Community and drop in to write when it fits your schedule. Here's the link where you can learn more. https://www.creativeslingersofink.com/
