Sweetwater's Canton: September 2025

Once a month, I get to share my books with a few other Indie Authors at the Sweetwater's Coffee & Tea cafe's in Novi and Canton, Michigan. These meet & greet events are organzied by Creative Slingers of Ink and they are wonderfully relaxing. They are smaller and shorter events, with just four authors between 11am and 3:30pm... which means, not only do I get fantastic cocoa, I also get to sleep in! 😴 Today, we were in Canton.

As much as I love going out into the world with all fourteen of my titles and several of the Pages Promotions Community Service Anthologies, these cafe days give me the opportunity to spotlight a small group of my books, talk at length about writing craft and book marketing strategies with other authors, and chat with readers at a slower pace than some of the bigger events like conventions, festivals, and faires. Coffee shop vibes go well with storytelling... and the super-tasty cocoa? Well, that's an added perk. (See what I did there? 😉)

Today, Drake met a family visiting from Great Britain and we spent some time chatting about their reading interests. Drake was thrilled that they chose to take a copy of A Duck Quacks with them back across the gigantic pond. As English is not his native language, Drake is always intriqued whenever he hears a new accent. 🦆

I enjoyed a comfortable afternoon talking with fellow poet, Lisa Ann McCarthy. We found we had much in common. Not only do we both write poetry - although I'll admit, she's far more proficient at it than me - and we share the distinction of hearing the world differently than average folks. [If you ever have a chance to meet her, perhaps she'll share that story with you.] Lisa and I also talked a bit about the challenge of getting our books noticed by readers. Again, she's had more luck at that than me, winning three awards for her books. I'm thrilled that she's opening up the world to her imagination and life experience through the written word... and that readers who discover her are enjoying her creativity! 😊
