I love participating in events that support schools and community organizations, because whether I sell all of my inventory or only just one book, I know that the money I contribute through table fees and raffle donations is going to be well-spent.

On November 8, I took part in the Livingston Classical Academy's Holiday Show out in Whitmore Lake. The event was a fund-raiser supporting the Junior-Senior trip to Washington DC, and local area Veteran's Associations. When you can support two fantastic groups at the same time, the event is even more fantastic!

I'd never been to this show before, and I found it tremendously well-organized, with table layout well-spaced, with lots of lovely people attending. The school provided free donuts and coffee in the morning... if you've ever watched vendors set up for one of these events, you'll understand how critical extra fuel is to us in the morning. 😊 And, they had tons of super-tasty pizza, which was donated by a local restaurant, for a great price, available at lunchtime. It was a nice treat to not worry about packing lunch the night before!

I met some wonderful humans (and two super-cute dogs), and enjoyed some terrific conversations with people of all sizes and ages. Some were shy, some were like me, over-the-top enthusiastic, and others were contemplative as we discussed my books. One woman in particular stands out to me because I was so touched by her story. I told her a little bit about my memoir, Wolfe Cub, which shares my story of raising my son as a single parent with intentionality. She shared that she made the same choice, and she had five children. Through our conversation, we learned about our very different paths, yet found similarities, too. We found in each other, a battle-tested confidant who truly understood what it means to make a decision to be a conscious parent. Our children are about the same age, so she didn't buy my book... but she didn't have to. I think the conversation was worth more to me than the money I would have made on the sale. We shared a connection and felt mutually supported. That's priceless.

I would love to attend this event again next year. The people were kind, engaging, and the children I met made me smile all day long. Watch my event calendar next year, and perhaps you can come out to share a bit of time and support the school, too.
